National team Chief coach K.Rajagobal is expected to call-up 24 players for centralized training beginning 28 May as the team moves into the final phase of its preparations to face Chinese Taipei in the first round of Asian Zone 2014 World Cup Qualifiers in June.
The chief coach has been busy watching M-League matches, monitoring the national player’s performances and also identifying players who can be considered for national call-up.
“I am happy with the performance of the national players and I have also identified a couple of players who have good skills and may be an asset to the team,” said Rajagobal.
The team that reports in on 28 May is scheduled to play in the international friendly match against Hong Kong on 3 June and possibly another match before 7 June.
“The squad will be assembled again on 24 June for the final preparations before we face Chinese Taipei. I hope by then our team will be ready to face Chinese Taipei, whose playing style is similar to that of China,” added Rajagobal.
Malaysia will face Chinese Taipei on 29 Jun in Kuala Lumpur and away on 3 July. The winner will face Singapore in the second round.
“Chinese Taipei has been playing well recently and put up a good performance against some tough teams in the AFC Challenge Cup. I believe we have to be well prepared and have the confidence to play against teams like this,” added Rajagobal.
In the 2012 Challenge Cup qualifiers, Chinese Taipei lost 2-0 to Pakistan and 2-0 to Turkmenistan and 3-0 to India.
